Head, heart and socialism
Monday 25 August

I have been re-reading Iremonger´s biography of William Temple. On p 331 Iremonger quotes Dean Inge as saying that ´any young man who knew something of the miseries of the very poor must be hard-hearted if he did not become a socialist; but that, as he grew up, if he did not discard his socialist creed he must be very soft-headed.´ Of Temple this was certainly not true. With him head and heart never parted company. Many of Temple´s insights and approaches have relevance to issues discussed today.
